The console was conceived in the year 2001, as the Nintendo Game Cube was first released. Name

The console was known earlier by the code name of "Revolution" until April 27, 2006, immediately prior to E3. Nintendo Style Guide put it that the name is simply Wii and not Nintendo Wii. This means that it is the first home console Nintendo is selling outside of Japan without the company trademark name. While "Wiis" is a commonly used pluralization of the console, Nintendo has reiterated that the official plural form is "Wii game systems" or "Wii game consoles." Nintendo spells "Wii" with two lower case letter "i" meant to represent players gathering together, likewise representing two people standing side by side, as well as to represent the game console's non-conventional controllers.
